MedBeam Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 25, 2026
What stays on your iPhone
These are stored only on your device and are never sent to us:
- Your search history, saved medications and the last ZIP code you entered
- A list of the reports you made (so you can see them in History)
- Your settings (theme, colors, text size)
You can delete all of this anytime in Settings → Delete all data on this iPhone, or by deleting the app.
Anonymous availability reports
When you tap "Yes, they had it" or "No, they didn't", MedBeam shares this with other users through our database (hosted by Supabase):
| Shared | Example |
|---|---|
| Medication ID (a standard government drug code) | 861226 |
| The pharmacy's map location (not yours) | 38.93806, -77.55369 |
| Your answer | Had it / didn't have it |
| The time (set by the server) | Sept 24, 2026, 7:38 PM |
Reports contain no name, account, device ID or location of you, and cannot be linked back to you. "Prefer not to answer" shares nothing. Like most internet services, our database provider may briefly keep standard technical logs (such as IP addresses) for security; we do not store IP addresses with reports and do not use them to identify anyone.
Because reports are anonymous, we cannot find or delete a specific person's report. Reports older than 45 days are no longer shown.
Services MedBeam uses to look things up
To show results, the app sends your search (not your identity) to these services:
| Service | What is sent | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Apple Maps | The ZIP code or map area you search | Find nearby pharmacies |
| National Library of Medicine (RxNorm) | The medication name you type | Identify the exact medication and strength |
| U.S. FDA (openFDA) | Medication codes | Official shortage, product and recall data |
| Medicaid (data.medicaid.gov) | Medication product codes | Pharmacy price trends |
These are separate services with their own privacy policies. MedBeam does not use GPS location tracking; it only uses the ZIP code you type or the map area you choose.
What we never do
- Sell or share personal information (we don't collect any)
- Show ads or use advertising trackers
- Track you across other apps or websites
- Give medical advice. MedBeam is an information tool; always talk to your doctor or pharmacist about your medication.
Children
MedBeam is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
